The Sparkling Taste of Victory

The Best Race Trophy Ever

*BEEEP* *BEEEP* 11:00 AM, it’s the alarm clock. Sneeze. *BEEEP* *BEEEP* 11:30 AM, that bastard again. Just turn it off. *BEEEP* *BEEEP* 11:47 AM, damn, didn’t I just turn it off?! It’s Koen. It’s on, we are going to Břeclav after all, despite all the lazy people and their excuses. Shower. Fix something to eat. Switch the pedals. Oil the chain. Pack. Koen calling again. Just grab the bike and get out of the door, you can wake up later. Front wheels out, bikes in. A bit of confusion on the highway. Finally catch up with the guys from Pedal Project near Brno and follow them to Lednice. Bikes out, front wheels in. Chateau and a big park. Wet gravel, damn. Stop for quick lunch. Rain in the distance. Dirty front wheels out, dirty bikes in. Břeclav. Riders already circling around, warming up. Are we late? Bikes out, front wheels in. Register. Warm up quickly. Line up. Start! Five neutral laps. Bell rings. The mayhem starts. Twenty two riders. Nineteen laps to go. Keep up with the front group. Sixth. Fifth. Third. Somebody’s pedal strikes the ground. Wheels touch. Crash. Too close. No way to avoid the rider on the ground. Get up! Forget about the pain. Second. Half a lap to catch up. Get closer. Lap after lap. Head spins. Focus. Finally on his tail. Just sit there. Let him boil. Stay in his slipstream. Make him do the work. Make him worry. Bell rings again. The last lap. Cut inside. Tight turn. Push hard. First. The last turn. Be careful. Don’t do anything stupid. The finish straight. Sprint!

Some days it pays out to get out of the bed.

    Hell Yeah Salo!!! Nice win!

    Way to rep Prague…

    I wish I was there.

Well done! Wish I could’ve been there too, but next time, I guess. A congratulatory beer at the polo grounds is in order next week, if my nose ever stops bleeding… Sounds like we picked up a new player for polo as well?

micah, will there be another autumn alleycat like last year? or you don’t have time/enthusiasm to organize it.

btw. anyone interested about real critical mass next week during/after cyklojizda? we’re thinking about doing our way this year. no permissions, no police guards…

Hey Saman, I think another Halloween alleycat is definitely on the cards. If you’re interested in helping out with organizing, I would definitely appreciate it though!

As for the critical mass – sounds like a brilliant plan. I have to see how it goes with my health, but I would love to be a part of it.

halloween is 31st October, right? We are just coming back from Slovakia with Dula, hopefully we can make it. It depends on time of the race I guess.
Concerning the critical mass. I am sure it will happen, but not the same day as velka cyklojizda. We can talk about that if we meet on cyklojizda
