Big Flat Lovin’ Group Ride

Look, I’m gonna skip the pictures of dog’s nuts and all because it’s frankly weird to me to post pictures of dog’s nuts all pubic-like. Dogs can’t help it that they can’t buy boxers – I blame the International Banking Conspiracy for not giving them credit cards.

However, I think Victor’s well spotted stretch of highway (part of the new ring road off the highway near Cerny most) calls for an organized ride sometime real soon. Let’s tentatively have a look at Saturday? I think we should do a ride, then co-opt a bit of it for a polo game.

It is evidently being populated by a horde of “in-line skaters.” We all know what the hardest thing about Rollerblading is… Best answer in the comments wins a PrahaFixed stencil to lay down in the middle of that ring road 🙂

Road to nowhere…

This post on Grant’s Bike Blog shows the new bike tunnel(ization) that the EU paid for through Vitkov, which will be a nice token gesture if it’s ever actually opened, but Prague is still light years from being a bike friendly city. Instead, we get Mayor Bem posing without his training wheels in front of an essentially wasteful project and the typical Svejkitude when it comes to actual infrastructure improvement. On the way to pick up lunch today, I noticed the new intersection down at the far end of the Holesovice railway station (the intersection of Vrbenskeho and Partyzanska). Sparking new roads with actual reflective paint, brilliant new red and white handrails just waiting for “Sex Party” stickers, formidable curbs… all blocking the designated cycle route. The red bike lanes are painted onto the street, running right into a 12 inch high curb and pedestrian guard rail on both sides of the crossing. Really brilliant, Honza, thanks! Pictures of this new stupidity will follow as soon as I can get out there with my camera. Maybe we ought to get our hacksaws out and fix the problem grassroots style…

Enhanced Laziness

Sorry for the lack of updates, but things have been crazy around Prague lately. A bunch of us made it down to Budapest for the 2010 ECMC event, which ended up being a hell of a lot of fun. We’re still compiling all of our own photos and videos, but here are some bits and pieces posted over at the ECMC site.

Polo at the Malesice rink is in full swing as well. The giant court and smooth corners feel downright luxurious after Budapest and the tiny little spot at Petrin. Anyone who’s interested, please check the Bike Polo tab in the coming days for updated maps and our court times.

Our Prague contingent split up into 2 teams:

Praha Pistola (Rob, Koen and Spencer) only lost one match, but couldn’t stay around for the finals, which were held on Monday evening after being rained out Saturday. The video below is a bit of the final match, which ended up being played at a makeshift court in the Csepel area.

PC Bohemians Petrin (Micah, Salo and Robert) had a bit more of a mixed record, coming out with 2 ties, 1 loss and 1 win, but had a great time regardless. Next time, Motorfuckers 😉

We have a ton of photos and videos to come, so check back in!

Malesice Rink: Polo Timetable

We are starting to play one hour earlier in the upcoming weeks and switching to Wednesday in June!

Here’s the game timetable until the end of June:

    Thursday,  May 27, 7:00 - 9:00 PM
    Wednesday, Jun 2,  7:00 - 9:00 PM
    Wednesday, Jun 9,  7:00 - 9:00 PM
    Wednesday, Jun 16, 7:00 - 9:00 PM
    Wednesday, Jun 23, 7:00 - 9:00 PM
    Wednesday, Jun 30, 7:00 - 9:00 PM

We’ll be meeting at the the usual spot, exit of Depo Hostivař metro station at 6:30 PM (or come directly to the rink).

Also, we need to figure out what to do during the holidays (Jul – Aug), whether there will be enough people around to keep renting the rink.

Reminder: Polo this week

Just a reminder that we are playing again this Thursday, May 20, 8:00 – 10:00 PM in Malešice. We’ll meet again at the metro station Depo Hostivař at 7:30 PM (or come directly to the rink).

We’ve got a great turn up last week, with 3 full teams so don’t chicken out this week, as it’s the last practice before the tournament at ECMC 2010!

The day of week and time might change starting next week as more slots at the rink will be available (possibly to Wednesday, we’ll see).

Polo this Thursday, Malesice

If you didn’t come play last Thursday, you have only yourself to blame, since you missed the best polo games we’ve had yet. The weather looked pretty gloomy the whole day but just before we started the sky began clearing up and we even got a bit of a late evening sun. The rink is awesome and we are working towards making this our home base.

Next session: Thursday, May 13, 8:00 – 10:00 PM

We’ll meet at the exit of metro station Depo Hostivař at 7:30 PM or come directly to the rink.

Malesice polo tonight

So, we’re still on at the moment for polo tonight at the rink in Malesice from 8.

Weather permitting, of course 😉

The view from Gattaca

Anyone who would like to meet up – I’ll be at Depo Hostivar metro (Green Line) at 7:30 and will ride from there. In the case of continued pissing down rain, I’ll post on Twitter if we plan to cancel.

ECMC brings the cheese!

Come on, guys, this video is complete cheese 😀

Whyfor?

1. Hungarian girls are the most beautiful in the world, it’s a commonly known fact

2. Szimpla kert is way more fun than Szoda

3. 24-hour doner

Counting down the days!

Malesice Polo!

Salo has been good enough to arrange a time for us to practice on a proper court on Thursday from 8pm to 10. The court is International Regulation Olympic size, with lights and nice, rounded corners. Everyone please make an effort to get out and play on Thursday – it’s our first chance to play on a proper court and we will need the practice before the ECMC in Budapest. Let your friends know. Let your friends let their friends know. It’s “on”.

In the spirit of the bike snob, I’d like to present a small quiz today as well – if anyone can tell me what this cop said to me this morning after razzing me with his siren, I’d be much obliged. I don’t know where he came from, as the eyes in the back of my head weren’t working so good this morning, but he seemed really keen on letting me know whatever was on his mind. If it turns out to have been rude, I have his SPZ clearly on the video. Probably I violated some precious Czech law against something (riding a bike without fake team unitard, perhaps?) A curiosity.
