Hey Angela, unfortunately, there’s nowhere to rent or buy anything fixie related here. Rob, who also runs this blog, has a bunch of vintage parts, some of which are for sale, but to get the real deals, you’ve got to hang around for a bit. At the moment, he’s got a couple of old favorit track frames all built out. If you care to handle the shipping, they’re definitely a rarity back in the states and the prices are pretty good. I’ll pass your email on – thanks for getting in touch and enjoy Prague!

Hey all. I picked up that old favorit from Rob the other day, but need a little help getting it sorted (trouble finding the right tools). Anybody have a lockring tool? Also, a drill press would be handy, too!

I’m afraid I don’t have a drill press – are you trying to drill a hole for brakes on the fork? If so, a regular old drill with a metal cutting bit will work, I’ve done it before myself and have the right bits. I have a “sort of” lockring tool as well (just a pipe fitting wrench, but it works well enough. I can bring the lockring gadget and bits to polo with me on Wednesday, if you feel like making it out to Malesice (map is on the bike polo tab).

Matt: I would strongly recommend NOT to drill a track fork, if it has round pipes (which it probably has). They will bend (or worse, break) under the braking forces. Just get a different fork, already drilled for brake with oval pipes.

Thanks for the concern. That was something I did look into. I guess this must have been cobbled together, because it definitely has oval pipes on the fork, and plenty of space to put a hole for a break. Thanks, though.
Oh shit. Also, can’t make Wednesday polo so don’t worry about bringing stuff way out there. Another time, perhaps.
